When I was at school the graffiti on this postbox said something nasty about a girl I went to school with. Glad to see that graffiti artists in the town have a bit more maturity these days.

I was in Cushendall recently and there wasn't much there graffiti-wise, a few people's names scrawled on walls. The only good stuff I found was this one a public toilet in a car-park. It had been done by a local community group.

This Graffiti is all from an alleyway behind South Parade, which links the Ormeau Road with Ravenhill Road in Belfast. Most of it is faded so it looks like it hasn't been used much in years.

Dunvale Estate Subway, Ballymena

I was in Ballymena recently and the graffiti was slim pickings. The problem was that a lot of the car parks in town that used to have the best graffiti have gotten rid of it. Instead of doing a complete repaint of the walls what has happened is the council have just painted big grey squares where the graffiti used to be. This doesn't in any way serve to improve the look of the area instead it makes it look bland and uninteresting.

Anyways one place I found some was in the subway at the entrance of the Dunvale estate where I grew up.

This looks to be the result of the community programs that usually result in inoffensive crap like zoo animals being painted up. As luck would have it, whoever did it used a hip-hop theme with the faces of various hip-hop artists and the slogan "Northsiders" (because Dunvale is in the north of the town).

I've started this blog just to show some graffiti from around Northern Ireland I've photographed with my camera. I'm interested in various aspects of graffiti: it's artistic merits, it's use as a medium of communication, and how it fits among the millions of messages our surroundings send us every day.

This blog will focus more on just showcasing graffiti I find interesting so don't worry, I won't overload it with theory.

I'm interested in sprayed work as well as stickers and the obscure/funny messages that crop up all over the place so if you see any that you may think I'd find interesting let me know.
